A few years back our Founder & Chief Curator, Turner Canning Lozano (TC), realized that many times a brief review of a project or discussion of a problem with a trusted? friend or a mentor would result in a more actionable and feasible solution than spending weeks or months trying to solve the problem on his own or through the standard engagement of traditional consulting firms. The problem was, how to find a mentor in a variety of different fields and with the diverse experience to be applied to the complex field of Placemaking?
After decades in the real estate industry and having worked on projects spanning the globe, TC began discussing how to create a way for developers, cities, and individuals to benefit from the same mentors that he had within his social network and as a result, Crimson Placemaking was started as an alternative solution to top-heavy consulting engagements, inflated fees and lengthy delivery times to gain insight into problems and issues in developing real estate and improving public places.
Many times all that is needed is a focused and succinct view of a project or a specific problem rather than a protracted and drawn out consulting and evaluation process. By using ‘Targeted Mentoring’ as a guideline, Crimson connects its clients to industry leaders and Subject Matter Experts (SME’s) from around the world and from diverse backgrounds to act as advisors for limited time engagements and to provide high-level solutions to problems and issues, or work to further improve an already amazing place.
Development and project goals are evolutionary and good advisors assist with their execution. Targeted Mentoring by trusted advisors is important, not only because of the knowledge and skills organizations and individuals can learn from advisors, but also because it provides professional socialization and personal support to facilitate success.
Our SME’s are dedicated and passionate about their work and are ready to share their knowledge and experience with you and your team.
“Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.”
– Benjamin Franklin
Online retailing and COVID-19 are unavoidably disrupting the tried and true brick-and-mortar world and be it a small community mall to a street or precinct or to city-wide planning, Placemaking is about creating safe experiences and human interactions not only with the people around us but with the environment itself. It is entirely intentional and happens very rarely on its own (at least not in new developments or re-developed areas), rather, like a great piece of art, it is planned from its first sketches and executed to make a vision come to life.
“If you want to go quickly, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”
– African Proverb

"We can build systems to engage people, but until we figure out why they aren't engaged and using the public spaces that they already have today, nothing will change."

What is Microconsulting?
At Crimson Placemaking, innovation is at the core of our approach and as an alternative to a traditional engagement we offer Microconsulting services upon request.
Microconsulting is a short burst of work that is focused on a specific topic or requirement, priced to your budget and delivered and acted upon within a matter of weeks or days depending on your needs. We view it as a quick and strategic means to supplement your team with specific expertise or intellectual horsepower from our diverse group of SME’s.
What are the benefits?
We see consulting as evolving to provide short bursts of specific work that can be delivered in weeks and supplements your existing thinking. Gone are the days of the 100-page PowerPoint decks, and many times, there’s no need for a full-fledged consulting team with high overheads and long delivery times. What companies need instead is 1 or 2 individuals or a small dedicated team who can work with management to collect and digest the data into a short summary and focus on a solution to a problem or to find alternate results.
Microconsulting results in project turn-arounds of weeks instead of months and deliverables are targeted to be implemented immediately and are ‘boiled down’ to actionable and achievable short and long-term goals.
How does Microconsulting work?
Unlike our standard suite of pay-as-you-go services, Microconsulting engagements, due to the short time-frame and dedicated resources to deliver on-time and to budget, require an upfront consulting fee and an increase of 30% on SME hourly rates.
