The illustrious Rockefeller Group initiated the Waitanyuan redevelopment project (later renamed Rockbund) in Shanghai and subsequently led by the Shanghai Bund de Rockefeller Group Master Development Co. Ltd. The project comprises 94,000 square meters of urban mixed-use redevelopment and the restoration of over 11 historical buildings with the construction of residential, retail, art, and commercial space as part of a city-led redevelopment project called Waitanyuan (Bund Park).
The innovative development focuses on preserving Art Deco heritage buildings along the outer edges of city blocks with inner-block zones scheduled to develop residential and commercial towers, pedestrian streets, and the expansion of the former British Embassy's parks and grounds. The project is still under development, and notable successes include opening the Shanghai Peninsula Hotel (2009) and the Rockbund Art Museum (2010).

Located in the heart of Shanghai adjacent to Middle Huaihai Road and the centerpiece of Shui On Land’s ambitious mixed-use masterplan, the former historical Shikumen neighborhood has been revitalized into Shanghai’s glitzy and contemporary leisure district featuring fine restaurants, upscale clubs, and boutiques. It is composed of old-style Shikumen residences and modern architecture, which retain the antique walls, tiles, and exterior of old Shanghai while embodying a contemporary world in its interior.

Taikoo Li (formerly Sanlitun North/South Village) is HK-based Swire Properties' first completed project in Mainland China (opened in 2008). It is a predominantly open-air shopping center in the Sanlitun area of the Chaoyang District in Beijing, China, designed by the Oval Partnership (HK) and led by renowned Japanese architect Kengo Kuma.
Transforming a former exclusively nightlife precinct into an exciting lifestyle destination, Taikoo Li is home to over 200 retail outlets, nearly 70 dining outlets, The Opposite House boutique hotel, a multiplex cinema, and a multipurpose event venue – The Red.
